The LGA Foundation 12 Days of Christmas Campaign 2025: SURT – Day Ten

On the tenth day of Christmas my good friends brought to me…🎁

As part of The LGA Foundation’s 12 Days of Christmas Campaign 🎁 SURT decided to use their funding to launch their “Christmas Cares 2 ” Project. Last year, with funding from the LGA, we successfully ran our first “Christmas Cares” project for veterans across South Tyneside. It was a jolly success! Therefore, It was wonderful to hear that we were to receive funding for the second year, so again, we could offer a little “Christmas Care” to our local community.

On the 4th December 2025 our young people met with the wonderful Bede’s Helping Hands Food Bank K.A.V.S, to prepare 30 Christmas hampers for veterans across South Tyneside. We had such fun preparing and wrapping the gifts and felt proud that we were able to give back to our local veterans. On the 17th December, we delivered our first hampers to NAAFI Break South Tyneside whilst they were having a fantastic Christmas breakfast prepared by the amazing Five Quarter Café. On the 22nd December, we delivered the remainder of the hampers to Veterans for Veterans in Care, where we visited 3 different care homes across South Tyneside. We even had our very own Christmas Cares card designed by one of our talented young people, which was gifted to all participants.

As a thank you to the SURT young people involved in the project, the Red Bench Project who are a huge supporter of our local Veteran support services, presented our young people with a thank you Christmas gift. This wonderful project would not have been possible without funding from the LGA and the passion and dedication from all of the “Christmas Cares 2”  Project participants.
