On the third day of Christmas my good friends brought to me…🎁
As part of The LGA Foundation’s 12 Days of Christmas Campaign 🎁 SURT has decided to use their funding to launch their own “Christmas Cares” campaign. Initially, the idea started as a way to give back to organisations that have helped them throughout the year. Having reached out to Helping Hands Foodbank, they suggested that they support a vulnerable group of veterans and wanted to give them something extra special this Christmas.
SURT are now hosting a Christmas Dinner for the veterans, providing them with a two course meal in a lovely location and with the young people of SURT acting as waiting staff. The young people have also arranged for a local taxi service to drive the Veterans to and from the restaurant. In total, seven organisations have been involved in creating this very special meal arranged by SURT. They even designed a wonderfully creative poster to promote the Campaign!
SURT have also ensured that the experience of creating the campaign has been educational – Each organisation has met with SURT members at the Food Bank and have been invited to host a talk about their organisation.
SURT (Stopping Unsafe Relationships Together) works to prevent and stop abuse within relationships and to support recovery and raise hope and aspirations. They focus on the needs of young people aged 11-24, living in South Tyneside who are experiencing or have been affected by intimate partner abuse, child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, honour based abuse and stalking and harassment. Their aim is to enable children and young people to be safe, happy and resilient and provide education to help them recognise unsafe and unhealthy relationships and to exit abusive relationships.
