How we helped
The multi-award winning WEWG aims to empower women and girls traditionally disenfranchised from access to existing services. A thriving community hub in one of the most diverse wards in Newcastle, it runs youth clubs, women’s groups, exercise classes, health and wellness activities such as cycling, cooking courses and employability programmes. It also offers and training and volunteering opportunities, access to ICT facilities and childcare.
Funding helping girls to grow strong, become resilient and empowered
WEWG has also built a well deserved reputation for its work tackling domestic violence through the Safe Project.
Through its involvement in innovative projects such as the West End Community Bakery and Edible Elswick projects it is a powerful advocate of healthy eating and lifestyles.
“West End Women and Girls Centre are grateful for the kind donation from the LGA Foundation. The money will be used to provide activities and services to women and girls from the West End of Newcastle. In the current financial climate, donations like this are more important than ever in keeping grassroots neighbourhood organisations like ourselves afloat and we cannot thank the LGA Foundation enough.“ Huffty McHugh, Coordinator for West End Women and Girls
