Opening up adventure for more people across the North East

The LGA Foundation has awarded £10,000 to The Lake District Calvert Trust to help more people from the North East access outdoor adventure experiences that might otherwise be beyond their reach.

The funding will provide financial support for 60 people to attend the Trust’s accessible activity centre in the heart of the Lake District, enabling them to take part in a wide range of outdoor activities designed for people of all abilities.

Representatives from the LGA Foundation recently visited the centre to learn more about the impact the funding will have and to see first-hand how the organisation is creating opportunities for people to experience adventure, build confidence and connect with others.

The Lake District Calvert Trust specialises in delivering accessible outdoor experiences, ensuring that people with disabilities and additional needs can participate fully alongside family members, friends and carers. Activities available at the centre include canoeing, sailing, zip wire, high ropes, horse riding and swimming, all delivered with accessibility at their core.

The funding will help remove financial barriers that can prevent individuals and families from accessing these opportunities, opening the door to experiences that support physical wellbeing, mental health, independence and social connection.

The LGA Foundation exists to help people and communities across the North East thrive and believes that everyone should have the opportunity to experience joy, challenge themselves and create positive memories, regardless of their circumstances.

Sean Day, Chief Executive of The Lake District Calvert Trust, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to receive this funding from the LGA Foundation. It will help us welcome many more people from the North East to enjoy all the activities that the Lake District Calvert Trust has to offer. A huge thanks to the LGA trustees for sharing our belief that adventure should be accessible for all.”

The grant forms part of the LGA Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting organisations that create opportunities, remove barriers and improve quality of life for people across the North East.

Through partnerships with charities, community organisations and social enterprises, the Foundation continues to invest in projects that help people build confidence, develop new skills and access experiences that have a lasting positive impact.

The Foundation looks forward to following the journeys of those who will benefit from the programme and seeing the difference these experiences make in their lives.
